Decathlon and Céraclès Coopérative announced, on 31 August, the signing of a letter of intent to explore a strategic partnership in France. The planned project would be based on Decathlon taking a 50% stake in SAS Sport 2000 France, Céraclès Coopérative's purchasing arm.

This planned stake would concern only the purchasing arm, not the stores held by members, whose independence would therefore not be affected.

Two sports heavyweights with different profiles

Céraclès Coopérative brings together 735 stores under several banners: Sport 2000, Mondovélo, Espace Montagne, Ekosport-Rent, WAS, S2 Sneakers Specialist and also Urban Soccer, for revenue of 800 million euros in 2025. Decathlon, for its part, generated 4.84 billion euros in revenue in 2025 in France, with 324 points of sale. L'enseigne du groupe Mulliez had announced in 2024 its plan to sell outside its own stores.

Céraclès Coopérative's network would allow Decathlon to gain proximity without relying solely on opening its own stores. According to LSA, a selection of Decathlon's ranges could be distributed in Sport 2000 stores: brands such as Quechua, Domyos or Kipsta would thus find a new distribution channel. For Céraclès, this alliance would fit fully within the "Sprint 2030" plan.

Synergies still to be defined

According to Les Échos, collaborations around rental, repair or loyalty programmes would be envisaged between the two players. They could also benefit from bulk purchasing from international brands such as Adidas, Puma or New Balance.

The project concerns only France and remains subject to applicable labour and regulatory procedures, as well as approval from the relevant authorities. At this stage, no operational rollout or precise terms have been finalised: the exact contours of this future alliance remain largely to be written.
